ABSTRACT
The study focused on the perception of students on the impact of COVID-19 and its effect on the education system in the University of Benin, Benin City. The design adopted for this study was the descriptive survey research design. Four research questions were raised to guide this study.
The population of the study comprised of all students in the University of Benin, Benin City. A sample size of one hundred (100) respondents was drawn using the stratified random and purposive sampling methods. The data retrieved from respondents were analyzed and results after analysis were presented on tables using Percentages and Frequency.
The study revealed that the government never made any conscious effort to manage tertiary education, especially in the University of Benin, during the pandemic. It was also found that educational institutions never provided students with assistance during the pandemic. Also, findings revealed that online learning was very beneficial to students during the pandemic, but no agency cared much about it to sponsor its cause amongst undergraduates, rather students were left to make learning strides to provide themselves with materials for online learning. Therefore, it was recommended that the government should try as much as possible to improve on more strategic ways of managing education in the reoccurrence of pandemics. Also, it was recommend that distance education centre should be built in every community to further learning.
