ABSTRACT

The study investigated the perception of Social Studies teachers on the use of community resources in teaching and learning of Social Studies in some selected secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions were raised and answered.

The descriptive survey research method was adopted for the study. The population of this study comprised all the 201 teachers in the 20 public junior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. The sample size for the study was made up of 100 respondents. Out of the 20 public junior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area, ten (10) schools were randomly selected. For data analysis, frequency count and percentages were used to calculate the research findings.

The findings from the study include that Studies teachers perceive a strong correlation between the use of community resources and improved student academic performance. It was concluded that Studies teachers strongly perceive community resources as valuable tools that positively shape their instructional strategies. The study recommended among others that the Edo State Ministry of Education should develop a structured framework that encourages the integration of community resources, such as historical sites, cultural centers, and local institutions, into the Social Studies curriculum to enhance experiential learning.
