ABSTRACT
This study seeks to assess the perception of quality nursing care among ophthalmic patients in the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. It adopted a cross-sectional descriptive survey research design, and convenience sampling was used to select Two Hundred and Eight ophthalmic patients. A well-structured questionnaire was used as instruments of data collection. Descriptive (Frequency, percentage, Mean and Standard deviation) and inferential statistics (Chi-square and t-tests) were used to analyze the data. The statistical analysis was carried out using the IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 24.0 for windows. The level of significance was set at p<0.05. The result from the study shows that the majority of 135(65%) of the ophthalmic patients were not satisfied with the nursing care rendered in the facility. However, their perceived quality of the nursing care is high as the majority of the respondents showed positive perception towards the care. Hence, there is a need to improve efforts necessary for conforming to proper nursing care despite debilitating factors.
