ABSTRACT

Caesarean Section is a surgical procedure towards improving availability, accessibility, quality and the use of services for the management and treatment of complications of pregnancy, labour and delivery. The aim of this study is to assess the perception of Caesarean Section among pregnant women at Mother and Child Hospital in Ondo State. A descriptive survey was employed in this study and convenience sampling technique was used to 203 sample size. Data was collected using a well-structured questionnaire which had a reliability of 0.938. Data collected was analyzed statistically using SPSS version 22 software. Findings revealed that majority had a fair knowledge of Caesarean Section. Findings further revealed that majority have Positive attitude, while few have negative attitude. few of the pregnant women had experience Caesarean Section. Findings also showed that the major factor is cost of CS with a mean of 2.56 while the least factor is previous deaths of relatives from CS and that it is against the will of God with a mean of 2.12. Hypothesis showed that there is no significant relationship between age, level of education and attitude of Caesarean Section. Hence there is a need to make a planning strategies and awareness should be organized by the nurses in educating the study area on improving the perception of Caesarean Section among pregnant women.
