ABSTRACT

In conclusion, the study reveals that nurses at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital generally recognize the importance of nursing care plans for enhancing patient care and improving outcomes. Positive perceptions of the nursing care plan's role in communication and patient care were widespread, yet significant challenges hinder its full utilization in daily practice. These challenges include a lack of confidence, insufficient training, and support from the institution, as well as issues related to the complexity and time-consuming nature of care plans. The findings also underscore that organizational factors, such as inadequate staffing levels and limited access to necessary resources, significantly affect the implementation of nursing care plans. Many nurses expressed the need for ongoing education and training to boost their competence and confidence in utilizing these plans effectively. A key outcome of the study is the identification of a statistically significant relationship between nurses' perceptions and their attitudes towards the use of nursing care plans. Nurses with positive perceptions were more likely to have positive attitudes, which suggests that improving how nurses view the utility of nursing care plans could positively influence their motivation to use them. Overall, the findings suggest that addressing both educational and structural barriers is essential for improving the effective use of nursing care plans.
