The population of the study consisted 39243 male and female undergraduate students and a total of 361 students were selected using multistage sampling technique from 4 faculties as the sample size. The main instrument for the study was a self-structured questionnaire designed to elicit information from students. The validity of the instrument was established by giving it to the Supervisor of the research work and two additional experts in the field of study. The reliability coefficient (0.8) of the instrument was established and accepted for general use. The questionnaire was distributed directly to the respondents by the researcher and taken back from respondents. After the collection and collation of the instrument the data obtained were subjected to analysis using frequency counts and percentages.

Majority of the students had experienced suicide and were not suicidal. Findings also revealed that students were aware that factors like stress, academic problems, financial problems, sexual violence and others all influence the occurrence of depression in students. Consequent upon the findings of the study, it was recommended that students should be counseled on how to develop and maintain positive health studies. It also recommended that health centers and its staff be made fully aware of psychological problems and its effects on students overall performance.
