ABSTRACT

The study investigated the perceived knowledge of the causes of deforestation among residents in Ekosodin community. To guide this study, three research questions were raised and they were all answered. The descriptive research design was used for this study. A total of four hundred and eleven (411) residents in Ekosodin were selected to represent the population of the study. The instrument used for data collection was a well-structured questionnaire designed by the researcher. The data collected was analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The study revealed that Ekosodin residents had high knowledge towards the causes of deforestation. Also, it was concluded that residents of Ekosodin do not practice deforestation and lastly, based on the data collected and analyzed, it was concluded that residents in Ekosodin possess a negative attitude towards deforestation. It is this recommended that community-based environmental education programs should be implemented to reinforce the importance of forest conservation and sustainable practices.
