ABSTRACT
This study examines the influence of Computer-Assisted Objective Structured Clinical Examination (CA-OSCE) on clinical practice among nursing students in Edo State, Nigeria. CA-OSCE integrates technology to increase the objectivity and consistency of clinical skills assessment. The study aimed to evaluate students’ perceptions of CA-OSCE, its influence on clinical practice, and associated challenges. A descriptive cross-sectional survey design was employed, targeting a sample of 221 nursing students from the University of Benin and School of nursing, University of Benin Teaching Hospital. Data were collected through a self-structured questionnaire, which included three sections on demographics, CA-OSCE perception, and its influence on clinical practice, and were analysed using frequency, percentage, chi-square tests and Wilcoxon Ranks test. Results indicated a significant positive relationship between CA-OSCE and clinical engagement, motivation, and practical application of knowledge (p < 0.05), though its impact on anxiety reduction and self-assessment accuracy was limited. Despite initial barriers such as resource demands and the need for digital training, students recognized CA-OSCE’s role in improving critical thinking and reflective practice. The study recommends enhanced resource allocation and digital competency training to fully optimize CA-OSCE’s implementation in nursing education.
