This study accessed the perceived effects of drug abuse among Undergraduate students of the University of Benin. Four (4) research questions guided the study, providing valuable insights into the perceived effects of drugs abuse, difference in the perceived effect by age, sex and religion.
A survey research design was employed in this study involving a population of 45,000 undergraduate students in the University of Benin, the simple random sampling technique was used to select 450 undergraduates in the University of Benin. A structured questionnaire was used to retrieve data from the respondents.
The findings revealed that; there are negative effects of Drug abuse on University of Benin students, the perceived effects of drug abuse among University of Benin Students do not differ by sex,the perceived effects of drug abuse among University of Benin Students do not differ by Religious Affiliation and the perceived effects of drug abuse among University of Benin Students do not differ by Age. Based on the findings it was recommended that the University should bolster support systems targeting drug abuse prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation to mitigate the negative impacts on academic performance and student well-being. They should Implement comprehensive awareness programs focusing on the consequences of drug abuse and avenues for seeking help or support within the university setting and Strengthen counseling services to provide proactive assistance to students facing substance abuse challenges and create a non-judgmental environment for seeking help.
