ABSTRACT

This study investigated the Perceived effect of secondary school Students' English language proficiency on their verbal participation in classroom learning in Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State. To achieve the purpose of the Study, two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The research design adopted for this study is the descriptive survey research design. The sample size for the study was made up of two hundred respondents. The instrument used for data collection was a structured questionaire titled "Language Proficiency and Classroom Participation Questionaire (LPCPQ)". The data were analyze using frequency counts, simple percentages, and t-tests. The findings from the study shed light on the perceptions of senior secondary school students regarding their English language proficiency and it's impact on their classroom participation. It was recommended that Educational institutions should provide additional support for students to improve their English language skills, particularly in vocabulary and grammar.
