ABSTRACT
The study investigated the perceived challenges of implementation of the Edo-Best Programme in Oredo Local Government Area. Three research questions were raised to guide this study. The study adopted descriptive survey design. The population comprised all public primary school teachers in Oredo Local Government Area. The sample consist of 100 respondents purposively selected from public primary schools in Oredo Local Government Area. The instrument for the study was a self-designed questionnaire. Data obtained were analysed with the aid of frequency tables, simple percentage, mean scores and standard deviation. The study revealed that revealed that the introduction of the EdoBest Programme to basic education sector is the best approach by the state government and also that it has helped in containing teachers’ truancy in schools. Furthermore, it revealed that missing guides and insufficient allocation of data hinders the effective implementation of the Edo-Best Programme. It further revealed that regular and periodic teachers training is one of the best method of making the Edo-Best Programme effective. Based on these findings it was recommended that the issue of missing guides should be treated with utmost attention in order to make the programme more meaningful and training and retraining of teachers should periodically done to keep them abreast on technological progress.
