SUMMARY
Thus far, we have looked at how Adichie and Darko portrayed the issue of patriarchial oppression and women empowerment in their respective novels. Patriarchal oppression has becoming a dorminant practice in African societies, taking different forms and shapes.
It can be concluded from Adichie's Purple Hibiscus and Darko's Beyond the Horizon that family life, tradition, domestic violence and religion are factors responsible for the effectiveness of patriarchial oppression towards women in the society and both authors challenge women to have a voice as to fight their oppressors and the society to treat women with respect, affection and love.
Adichie payed attention to women and what they go through in life, their love for the family, respect for their husbands even when they treat them shabbily , and how some of them are able to say no to all forms of violence or subjugation by the male folk.
