ABSTRACT

This study examined the Parenting Styles and Self Concept on the Emotional Adjustment of Secondary School Students in Egor Local Government Area. Edo State.The study adopted the survey research and was guided by three research questions. The population of the study comprised 500 students from both junior and secondary school in Egor Local Government Area. The instrument for data collection was a self-designed structured questionnaire divided into two sections of A and B which cover demographic information of the respondents and research items respectively of a four-point scale of Strongly Agreed, Agreed, Disagree and Strongly Disagree. Mean and Standard Deviations was used to analyze data related to the research questions. The results showed that the predominant parenting style in Egor Local Government Area was Authoritative parenting style and the self concept and emotional adjustment of the students were positive. It was therefore recommended that parental warmth, love and control should be balanced when raising a child to have positive self concept and emotional adjustment of children.
