ABSTRACT

This study examined the socioeconomic level of the parents and the availability of food in the homes of lower elementary school students in the Egor Local Government region of Edo State. There were four research-related queries. Two questions were addressed, while the other two were turned into hypotheses and tested for significance at the 0.05 level. The research design used in the study was survey. All of the students in the public and private schools in the Egor Local Government Area of Edo State made up the population of this study, however only two of those institutions were chosen for the sample due to their accessibility. The "Household Food Availability and Adequacy Questionnaire" was the instrument used to collect the data. Data analyses included the use of mean, standard deviation, and analysis of variance. The socioeconomic standing of lower elementary school students is one of the findings of this study, among others include: Lower elementary school students have a low socioeconomic position and limited access to food. Due to their different socioeconomic backgrounds, students' access to food varies. It was recommended that:  parents should make provision for breakfast for the pupils so as to eat in the morning before going to school, the government through policy making and implementation, should ensure that lower primary school pupils are given meals in the schools as the parents may not be able to feed them adequately.
