ABSTRACT

This study examined the attitudes of parents towards the teaching and learning of sex education in secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. Four research questions were formulated to guide the study. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprise of all the parents in Egor LGA of Edo State. The sample is made up of one hundred parents residing in Egor LGA of Edo State. The instrument for data collection was a twenty item questionnaire developed by the researcher and validated by the researchers supervisor and two other experts from the department of Curriculum and Instructional Technology. After expert's validation, it was tested for reliability. The reliability coefficient was determined through Cronbach alpha procedure and it came up to 0.76 which was high for rational decision. The data collected was analysed using descriptive statistics specifically the frequency county and simple percentages. The findings of the study revealed that; Parents were aware of the importance of sex education. Parents religious belief influence their attitudes towards sex education. Parents possessed positive attitude towards the teaching of sex education. The educational level of parents affected the perception of teaching sex education. Also, parents of different religion and educational level residing in Egor LGA of Edo have a positive attitude towards the teaching of sex education in secondary schools.
