ABSTRACT

22 ditch cutting samples were collected from okponha community near okada, benin city from a depth of twenty (20) feet to one hundred and twenty (120) feet and were subjected to palynofacie analyses. A lithologic log embracing the different lithologies was generated. Two (2) lithofacies comprising of shale and shaleysand were established for the well where effervescence was tested for both lithology indicating a relatively high carbonate. Using point counting technique the palynofacie present in the studied well are predominantly phytoclast which are degraded, woody fragment and black and brown with an insignificant amount of palynomorph and amorphous organic matter (AOM) indicating a proximal shelf or basin of an oxic setting with moderate salinity.
