ABSTRACT

Thirty four (34) ditch cutting were collected from the Niger Delta located at Okada, Ovia North East, Edo state with depth ranging from 160ft to 340ft at 10ft sampling interval for the purpose of palynological studies. The samples were taken to the laboratory for lithologic differentiation, physical identification was done to differentiate the samples into various lithological unit such as shale, clay and sand. Dilute hydrochloric acid were used on the sediment to measure the degree of effervescent, palynological slide preparation (Earthprobe Laboratory, Lagos) was followed. Analysis was done using the point counting technique to identify the individual matter present with the use of a microscope. From the analysis, phytoclast was the predominant organic organic matter present, while palynomorphs and amorphous organic matter (AOM) were absent environment. The palynofacie analysis as inferred from Tyson (1995) reflect an oxic environment, kerogen type III and type III/ IV, oganic facie C and CD, a brackish environment and a proximal shelf depositional environment.
