ABSTRACT
Organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) are widely used synthetic pesticides that belongs to the chlorinated hydrocarbon group. OCPs plays significant role in modern agriculture, however, their indiscriminate use could potentially lead to serious environmental problems. OCPs and their metabolites are of great concern to the society as they are harmful to human health, pollute natural resources, and disturb the equilibrium of the ecosystem. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are widely spread organic pollutants in the environment; they are known for their mutagenic and carcinogenic effects and bioaccumulate in both animal and human tissues. These two groups of compounds (OCPs and PAHs) are also classified as persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and part of the "dirty dozen" chemicals as defined under the Stockholm Convention.
