ABSTRACT
This study examines organizational culture and employee performance in the work place using the transportation sector as a case study in Benin City. Cultural factors such as language, values, and social norms can have a profound influence on the behavior of employees and the performance of the organization. Understanding these influences of culture, managers can thus develop a strategic culture that will enable employees to be more effective and productive. Experts have suggested that cultural constraints (weak culture) are the primary cause of inefficiency and under performance in most firms locally and internationally. In the study a total number of 200 questionnaires were distributed and retrieved .This study utilized the Cornbrash’s Alpha test, which was 0.6 indicating validity. The researcher conducted a pilot test to ensure the reliability of the instrument.
This study used both descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. Descriptive statistics was used to summarize the characteristics of all variables in the administered questionnaires in order to present the data in a more meaningful way, which allowed simpler interpretation of the data.
Data that were collected or generated from the questionnaire were analyzed using the simple percentages, mean and multiple regression techniques were used to test the hypothesis with the aide of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) 24.0. It was concluded that there is a significant and positive impact on the type of organizational culture adopted by mangers on the performance of employees in the transport sector in Benin City Edo state.
