ABSTRACT

This study investigated Organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behaviour. The specific objectives of the study were to examine the effect of affective commitment, continuance commitment, and normative commitment on organizational citizenship behaviour while also identifying the mediating role of job satisfaction on organizational citizenship behaviour of employees in selected grocery stores (supermarkets) in Benin city, Edo state. It is an ex post facto type of research. The main research instrument employed in this study was the questionnaire. A total of one hundred and thirty-four (134) respondents for the study, out of which same number (134) was retrieved and used for the empirical analysis. The quantitative data was analysed using SPSS version 22.0. Considering the research objectives of the study; the findings of the study had demonstrated an overall significant impact of organizational commitment on organizational citizenship behaviour as only one variable (continuance commitment) was found to have an insignificant effect out of the three organizational commitment variables utilized.
