This study delves into the poetry of Odia Ofeimun, focusing on his role as a prominent poet of resistance within the Nigerian literary landscape. Rooted in the Marxist theory of literary criticism, the objective of this research is to unravel Ofeimun's methods of cultivating a culture of resistance among Nigerians through his poetry. The work emphasizes the crucial need for heightened awareness within the populace and highlights the crucial role played by resistance in the relentless pursuit of freedom. To achieve this objective, the research employs qualitative method of research, which involves the critical analysis of selected poems from Ofeimun's poetry collections. These poems serve as windows into the poet's thought-provoking narratives, which navigate the complexities of oppression and liberation. The study reveals that, through his poetry, Ofeimun communicates a powerful message: the ultimate path to ending oppression lies in the unwavering commitment to resistance. By shedding light on Ofeimun's contribution to resistance poetry and his alignment with Marxist principles, this research aims to cause Nigerians to have resistance as their watchword. Ofeimun's poetry emerges as a beacon of hope, inspiring readers to engage critically with the oppressive forces that persist in society and to envision a future marked by freedom and equity.
