                        ABSTRACT

Nigeria's population amounts to about 210 million people. As of 2020, 9.4 million people were aged 60 years and older. Between 2018 and 2020, Nigeria's elderly population experienced an increase of about 740 thousandpeople. Visual impairment increases with age among all racial and ethnic groups. In the elderly, the most common culprits for vision loss are cataract, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). In the developed world, vision loss from cataract has been dramatically reduced by increased access to cataract surgery. However, AMD and glaucoma lead to irreversible vision loss without early diagnosis and intervention. . Purpose: the purpose ofthis study is to reveal the common age related eye diseases in Agbor metropolis. A retrospective study of elderly patients seen within a certain time frame in three major eye clinics in the chosen area of study was  carried out. Data collected was analysed using the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 22.0. Contribution to Optometry: This will assist the Optometrist and other eye care providers in promoting awareness of the common age related eye diseases prevalent in the area and help them in providing treatment (where available), and education to the concerned population in other to prevent severe or irreversible vision loss.
