OCCURRENCE OF OUTDOOR LEARNING IN PUBLIC NURSERY CLASSES IN OREDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA.

ABSTRACT

This study investigated the occurrence of outdoor learning in public nursery classes in Oredo Local Government Area. Also of interest in this study are the level of occurrence of outdoor learning among nursery pupils and the difference in the level of occurrence of outdoor learning among nursery pupils in Oredo Local Government Area based on location, school size, age and teacher’s qualifications. Five research questions were raised, one was answered while four were formulated into hypothesis and tested at 0.5 level of significance.

The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. All the teachers in public nursery schools in Oredo Local Government Area formed the population of the study. Thirty schools formed the sample of the study.  A self designed checklist listed outdoor learning among nursery pupils was the instrument for data collection. Data collected were analysed using mean, standard deviation and independent sample t-test. Among the findings is that the level of occurrence of outdoor learning among nursery pupils in Orede Local Government Area is high. There is a significant difference in the level of occurrence of outdoor learning among nursery pupils based on school size and school age. Based on the findings, it was recommended that stakeholders should take proactive steps to promote and support outdoor learning initiatives by investing in teacher development programs focused on outdoor pedagogy and allocating resources for outdoor learning materials and equipment.
