ABSTRACT

The goal of this research project was to determine how occupational health and safety (OHS) influences the efficiency of employees in the health sector. The study's objectives included evaluating the state of OHS practices at the moment, estimating workers' productivity, identifying the OHS determinants that affect workers' productivity, and investigating the relationship between OHS and workers' output in the health sector. The data used in this research project came from structured questionnaires that were given to participants. The target population for this project included all healthcare professionals employed by UBTH; a random sample of these professionals will be chosen from the target group. A basic mathematical computation, percentages, and tables will be used to assess the data that has been gathered. The hypothesis between the two variables will also be tested, and the gathered data will be analyzed using the Chi-Square method. The study's conclusions show that there is a lack of knowledge about occupational health and safety procedures in the medical field, which raises the risk of accidents, injuries, and fatalities while lowering productivity. It was recommended that to improve safety, the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) should implement comprehensive training programs, update safety protocols, communicate procedures, invest in modern equipment, form a dedicated safety committee, promote a safety culture, conduct regular audits, and collaborate with regulatory bodies. Continuous monitoring and evaluation are also recommended.
