ABSTRACT

Andrographis paniculata is a well known medicinal plant and has been used in places like china, India , Malaysia e.t.c. It can be used in the treatment of fever, liver diseases, diabetes, inflammation e.t.c. The present study investigated the nutritional composition of Andrographis paniculata using standard methods. The study reveals that Andrographis paniculata contains high carbohydrate content. It reveals a promising nutritional profile with high mineral content of calcium, potassium and magnesium and the presence of high content of vitamin B complex and other key vitamins (vitamin C, vitamin A). The amino acid profile showcases a variety of essential and non-essential amino acids with high concentration of glutamic acid and cysteine. The presence of fatty acids were also revealed.  However the analysis of the presence of antinutrients indicate different levels of phytate, oxalate and cyanide.
