ABSTRACT

The study assessed nutritional knowledge, behaviour and anthropometric characteristics of students in Colleges of Education in Delta State. Eight research questions guided the study and five null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The research design adopted for the study was correlational survey. The population of the study comprised four hundred and thirtytwo (432) NCE I and II students from three public Colleges of Education in Delta State. Proportionate sampling technique was used to select 216 respondents. The instruments used for data collection were structured questionnaires, a bathroom scale for weight and a stadiometer for height. The instrument was validated by three experts. Cronbach alpha statistics was used to compute reliability of the instrument which yielded a coefficient of 0.75. The data collected from the field were analyzed using mean (𝑥), standard deviation (SD), Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC), mean difference (MD), and independent samples t-test. The hypotheses were tested at 0.05 levels of significance. The findings revealed that level of nutritional knowledge of students was high, their nutritional behaviours were more positive than negative, and about 75.8% of the students have normal body mass index.
