ABSTRACT
Due to the need of energy demand and the depletion of existing reservoirs, the oil and gas industry is expanding new exploration and production activities at the frontier, for example in deep waters, high pressure high temperature areas, and arctic regions. However, conventional drilling in these regions is difficult, and not possible, due to the narrow operating window. Common problems associated with drilling operations includes, but are not limited to, drill string blockage,stuck pipe and loss of circulation. In addition these problems increase nonproductive time (NPT) and increase costs in the oil industry.
