ABSTRACT

This study examines the multifaceted impact of Nollywood films on shaping the perception and portrayal of the Nigerian brand in the 21st century. Through a comprehensive analysis encompassing thematic content, cultural symbolism, economic dimensions, and global perception, the research sheds light on the dynamic interplay between Nollywood cinema and Nigeria's cultural identity. Content analysis of selected films reveals both positive and negative influences on audience perceptions, particularly concerning the portrayal of cultural values, character role modeling, and the depiction of Nigerian Indigenous religions. Despite concerns, Nollywood demonstrates a commendable application of nuanced cultural elements, including language, social practices, and cultural heritage, which authentically represent Nigeria's diverse demographic. Furthermore, Nollywood's global influence serves as a double-edged sword, reinforcing stereotypes while also showcasing Nigeria's cultural richness and economic realities to a global audience. The findings underscore the importance of responsible storytelling and cultural sensitivity in Nollywood productions, as well as the need for policy interventions to promote ethical standards and enhance the industry's socio-economic impact. Ultimately, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of Nollywood's transformative power in shaping contemporary narratives of Nigerian identity and projecting its cultural vibrancy to a global audience.
