ABSTRACT

This research examines Film as a Tool for Social Change using Dry by Stephanie Okereke and Wives on Strike by Omoni Oboli to unravel some of the dangerous cultural practices which are abusive and detrimental to the average Nigerian girl child and woman in our society. The main objective for this study is to highlight themes of social change in the selected movies, to investigate the relevance of these themes to the Nigerian Society, to investigate the impact Nollywood films on the Nigerian Society and to suggest ways through which Nollywood movies could be enhanced to expand the frontiers of social change. This research work mentioned some solutions like creating more awareness on girl child/ women right, collective effort in promoting women empowerment and promotion of female education nationwide, for producers to awareness and enlighten their audience on relevant themes e.t.c to enhance and effect positive change in our society. In order to achieve this, the survey design was adopted for the study. The study employed students of the University of Benin Ekewan Campus. The researcher used both the primary and the secondary sources of data in the course of the study. The primary data were collected through the instrument of questionnaire and observation. The secondary data were collected from text books, and online sources.
