Abstract

This study was conducted to look into the marketing analysis of rice in Edo State's Oredo Local Government Area. The price of imported and domestic rice in marketplaces in the Oredo Local Government Area was the basis for the study, which also included secondary sources of information. 100 rice marketers were chosen for the study using a straightforward random sampling approach. While secondary data were received from the National Bureau of Statistics on the price trend of rice from 2015 to 2022, primary data were gathered through structured questionnaires given to rice marketers. Tools for descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The study's findings indicated that the majority (62%) of rice marketers were women and that they worked for both wholesalers and retailers. The marketers were 43 years old on average and had 13 years of marketing experience. In 2022, the average cost of a 50 kg bag of domestic and imported rice was respectively 43,200.00 and 26,568.69.76. The marketing of rice had a gross margin analysis of $1,351,770.46. The research area's rice marketing efficiency was 1.15. High handling costs (mean = 4.51), subpar storage facilities (mean = 4.46), middlemen's activities (mean = 4.44), subpar market management (mean = 4.36), unfavorable government policies (mean = 4.36), low pricing (mean = 4.34), market tax charges (mean = 4.26), packaging issues (mean = 4.24), and subpar market intelligence (mean = 4.16) were the main obstacles for marketers.
