ABSTRACT
The Nigerian television coverage of the Edo State Government's primary health care program in Oredo Local Government Area (LGA) serves as the focal point of this study. The objective of this research is to examine the frequency, tone, framing, and impact of the television coverage on raising awareness and encouraging inhabitants of the Oredo community to utilize healthcare services. A mixed-methods approach involving content analysis of television news programs and interviews with key stakeholders was employed. The findings reveal that the primary health care program receives moderate coverage, with a predominantly positive tone and a framing that highlights achievements and areas for improvement. Interviews with journalists, government officials, healthcare professionals, and community members provide valuable insights into their perspectives on the coverage. The study underscores the significance of collaboration between television stations and government authorities, the provision of training for journalists, the allocation of adequate resources, community engagement, and adherence to ethical guidelines to enhance the quality and effectiveness of television coverage. The recommendations aim to improve the television coverage of the primary health care program and ultimately contribute to better healthcare outcomes in the Oredo community.
