ABSTRACT
The study examined Nigeria Federal system and the clamour for restrtructuring; the implications for peaceful coexistence and National development. The objective of the study was to ascertain the factors limiting restructuring in Nigeria; to assess the possible benefits of restructuring Nigeria for true federalism; to find out as well how restructuring increases peaceful coexistence and how peaceful coexistence in itself can bring about National development.
Basically, the study employed the use of simple percentage for answering the questionnaire in which 400 copies were shared to students of the university of Benin; in addition, a chi-square method of data analysis was employed to test for hypothesis.
The empirical result revealed that the quest for restructuring of Nigeria Federal system has led to a non-peaceful coexistence which has in turn limited National development in Nigeria. It however suggest ways in tackling these issues. The study recommends that the political strructure should be made cooperative federalism; instead of pseudo federalism so that the ethno-regional entities interests would be mutually integration in the formation of a serene sociopolitical structured country.
