SUMMARY

The apartheid policy that stated as a state ideology 1948 in South Africa collapsed in 1990. The consequence of it was conduct of the first multi-racial election in 1994 that saw the victory of Nelson Mandela of African National Congress (ANC) as the president of South Africa. It was clear that the collapse of the White Supremacist Regime was as a result of concerted efforts of the international communities. The federal government of Nigeria played a pivotal role in this regards. In the conclusion of the project, the following has to be noted; The white supremacist regime in the entire period of its adoption of racism in South Africa displayed a vagrant act of wickedness and complete violation of human rights abuses against the black majority. The various apartheid legislation as discussed in chapter two of this project is a clear manifestation of this claim. The heinous and despicable crimes of torturing of the blacks, the killing and sometimes Kangaroo trial and imprisonment of perceived blacks that are considered threat to the continuous existence of racism is an indication of this fact. Imagine the Sharpville Massacre, the Soweto Massacre, the Bulhoek Massacre ate all instances of this fact. What the Boers (Afrikaners) did in South Africa was a replacement of the global abolition of slave trade with racism. 46 The sustenance of the racist regime was a clear demonstration of the imperialist nature of the western powers which are France, US, Britain and some other few Western Powers who were apartheid at night and anti-apartheid at the day time. It should be noted that the British in 1910 hand- over power to be Afrikaners (the Boers and the few British that was left in South Africa). The gold and diamond industries were huge investment for the Western power. Against this background, they were at all-time blocking any United Nation resolutions against the white supremacist regime in South Africa. They were also the source of arms supply to South Africa. France for instance would only support arms embargo against South Africa if on!> she had been satisfied of surplus arms support to the racist regime. The point being made is that the white Supremacist would have collapsed before 1990, had it not for the full support the regime was having from the Western Industrial Nation. Moreover, it brings into focus the conspiracy theory that was prevalent among the Africans themselves. Some of the Africans were even acting as spy network for the South Africa police. This spy network was called the Bureau of State Security (BOSS). Through this spy network, most nationalist leaders were tracked down and arrested. The government also used the spy network to obtain information on impending strikes, in order to take measure to forestall then The point to note here is the played by Africana in the execution of the spy network wa amazing. The question is this, how can the blacks collaborate with the apartheid regime to oppress fellow blacks? 47 Emphasis must be given the fact hat Nigeria Federal Government was very instrumental in the collapse of apartheid in South Africa and also on the entire Southern African States. which are Angola, Mozambique, Zimbabwe etc. To defeat apartheid, the role played by Nigeria can’t be underestimated. The country was instrumental in the suspension of Africa from the Commonwealth in 1961. Again, Nigeria was partly responsible for the campaign of the international ostracization against the apartheid regime, Nigeria fought the Western hackers of South Africa to a standstill. The Federal Government of Nigeria contributed morally, financially, and otherwise to the liberation struggle in South Africa states. In the realization of its goal, the Federal Government during the period of Gen. Olusegun set up a “South Africa relief Fund” The Nigeria Federal Government was able to play her assertive and hegemonial role in the collapse of Apartheid regime in South Africa because of the countries established and constitutionalized foreign policy. At Independence in 1960, the countries adopted a skillful foreign policy having Africa As the center piece of her foreign policy. This policy was vigorously pursued h’ the various administrations that have ruled this country from independence till date. I he principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of fellow African states is a clear indication of this fact. It was known before now that it was Gen. Mohammed that coerced other states in OAU to acknowledge and to support and with immediate recognition of the government of MPLA in Africa. The point is this, the conduct of Nigeria Foreign Policy since Independence in 1960 have been 48 Afrocentric. It is this Afro centric nature that made the country to play a leading role in the decolonization and the eradication ol Apartheid from South Africa.
