ABSTRACT

The need for prompt Information exchange in institutions cannot be overemphasized. Information needing to be exchanged ranges from student data, staff data, results and other files. A computer network or data network is a telecommunications network that allows computers to exchange data. In computer networks, networked computing devices pass data to each other along data connections. The connections (network links) between nodes are established using either cable media or wireless media. The best-known computer network is the Internet (Todd, 2006). Information exchange cannot be possible or efficient without a local and external network system. This is because information needs to be transferred over a medium – wireless or wired. There is also a need of computers and network devices including necessary software for facilitating the exchange. This project focuses on the design and implementation of a local area network with internet connection for auchi polytechnic with the aim of creating easy and efficient flow of data within the school premises and outside the school premises. It would also include the design of a student management system for the student’s data and result management.
