ABSTRACT
In this essay we will examine the characteristics of narrative techniques used by Nigerian writer and activist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in her novel Americanah with special reference to narrative devices used to elucidate on the essay. The paper provides example of several narrative techniques taken from the novel such as setting, foreshadowing, irony and other items. Using the concept of narrative techniques for my analysis, therefore, I argue that, her narrative strategy including the use of settings, flashback, foreshadowing and irony as base for recognition could be interpreted as the method of manifestation of different level of struggle for self-identifications in the United States of America.
