ABSTRACT
This study focuses on naming expression as a means of cultural Ideology and identity in Ijesha dialect of Yoruba. The study examined the linguistic features of naming in Ijesha. The data for this study was collected using oral interview from the primary sources and document data from the secondary sources. The Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) framework was employed for the analysis of the data. The analysis of naming expressions in the Ijesha dialect of Yoruba, reveals several key findings. Names reflect power dynamics, gendered roles, and cultural values such as righteousness and love. The study finds that by understanding the significance of naming expressions, we gain insight into the cultural fabric and heritage of the Ijesha people, enriching our appreciation of their traditions and values.
