MULTIPLE TAXATION AND PERFORMANCE OF SMALL AND MEDIUM SCALE ENTERPRISES (SMES) IN DELTA STATE.

ABSTRACT

The study examined multiple taxation and performance in small and medium scale businesses in Sapele, Delta State. The objectives of the study were to find out if Company Income Tax, Market Tax, Value Added Tax and Development Levy had any significant effect on the performance of Small and medium scale businesses in Sapele, Delta State. Data for the study were obtained with the use of questionnaire. Data were analyzed using tables and simple percentages and the hypotheses were tested with multiple regression with the aid of SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences). Findings from the study are  that Company Income Tax, Market Tax, Value Added Tax and Development Levy had significant effect on the performance of Small and medium scale businesses in Sapele, Delta State. The study recommended that  there should be a tax reform system that will reduce the multiple  taxes to its barest minimum.
