ABSTRACT
The aim of this work was to investigate the multilingualism and youth language style of communication among the students of University of Benin, Edo state, Nigeria. Oral interviews and informalinteractions were used to elicit information from youths. The main targets of the research were youths who gave consent and were randomly selected from a pool ofyouth after the objective of the study was explained. International view theory by Paul Watzlawick was used to analyze the data in this workobtained from the oral and informal interactions. The results show that the youths used different slangy expressions and termsas means of communication. Also, the slang types differed from those used in other institutions and their coinage reflectedcreativity among students and was sex-dependent with usage more among males than females. The study revealed that the UBE programme in multilingualism and Igbo youth language style in Nigeria will result in developing our language and solidarity among students of the University and its surroundings.
