ABSTRACT

The monstrosity of masculinity in Faceless by Amma Darko and Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Adichie basically highlight some ills against women in the African society and also points to the fact that these ills are not right and that women should be given the privilege of enjoying their lives or having gender equality. However, chapter five of the project gives a summary about the monstrous nature of men to women and shows the various forms they apply force to exploiting women. In chapter two of this long project, the essay talks about socio-cultural exploitation. It speaks of how women are conditioned to accept some notions and values that reduces them. The essay speaks about how the patriarchy society uses force on them to make them stay inferior to men and most times leave them to face manipulations as seen in the character Fofo in Faceless. Also the chapter two of the essay speaks against economic exploitation and its manipulation on women financially. The chapter gives instances where women were financially exploited, opportunities were taken away from them as seen in Purple Hibiscus as presented by Ngozi Adichie.
