ABSTRACT
Traditional fabrics are a symbol of cultural representation of a particular people. A man’s culture can be ascertain from the way he dresses. This same fabrics can be used to create modern designs for our day to day gatherings. This study aims at documenting the use of traditional fabrics (with a focus on aso oke, velvet and a’nger) to create contemporary designs to make a statement of innovation to our younger generation that traditional fabrics can be used in our day to day dressing. This research employed experimental research method, creating contemporary designs with traditional fabrics from different cultures. Findings from the study reveals that our traditional materials can be preserved, used in contemporary times with new innovations that will suit the current time. The research however recommend from the findings that more attention should be giving to our traditional fabrics.
