ABSTRACT
This project brings to light the issue of cultural loss as a result of modernization and cultural adulteration using the Ugho dance of the Benin people as example. To achieve this, two cultural groups were studied: The Edobayokhae cultural group and the Ediendo theatre troupe which perform the adulterated version. From analysis of both groups and their performance characteristics, the issue of modernization and cultural adulteration was clearly seen. Literary methodology was also explored to determine the theoretical aspect of the research. Thus, this research shows the loss of cultural heritage due to Modernization and cultural adulteration. It also made some recommendations on how to tackle the issue of Modernization and cultural adulteration.
