ABSTRACT

Vehicle theft has been a challenge over the years across the globe. The purpose of this work is to design and develop microcontroller based secured ignition and notification vehicle anti-theft system which will greatly minimize theft of motor vehicle in our society. The main parts of the system are Bluetooth module, Camera module, GSM module, keypad, Electronic control switch, Ignition control unit, Liquid crystal display, Buzzer which are interfaced to PIC16F876A Microcontroller – the brain of the system. The design focus is to make a highly secured, flexible, reliable and cost effective vehicle anti-theft system. The system was designed so as to immediately communicate to the chief authorized users through email which contains the picture of the incident user/intruder on the commencement of password entrance in an attempt to start a vehicle. The vehicle owner can remotely immobilize the vehicle via SMS. When a user enters a correct password, the system instantly send an OTP (one time password) to the authorized user’s mobile phone to be entered into the system in order to authenticate the user. The connection between authorized user’s mobile phone and the system is established via Bluetooth. Once authentication has been done successfully, the user can starts the vehicle with ignition key. However for wrong password or OTP entrance, all authorized users are alerted via sms. For two attempts of wrong password or OTP, the system triggers a loud baring sound buzzer that alert nearby personnel of a suspected intruder. The motor vehicle anti-theft system is built and incorporated into a vehicle’s ignition system in such a way to make hot wiring of the vehicle very difficult. The security system is automatically activated once the ignition system is turn off. The developed system was installed in vehicle and tested. The results obtained showed that the system can adequately secure vehicles from theft as designed.
