ABSTRACT

This study examined the methods of teaching and learning economics ovia north east local government area of Edo state. The teaching methods that were treated in this study were the inquiring, discussion, demonstration and the project methods for in depth study. The population of this study comprises Economic teachers in secondary schools in ovia north east local government area of Edo state, the sample size was of 25 teachers from 20 selected public and private secondary schools and a simple random sample technique was used. The instrument used for collecting the data was the structured questionnaire, the primary data collected was analyzed using the mean and standard deviation. Findings from the study revealed that the methods adopted by teachers in teaching economics are the inquiring, discussion, project and the demonstration methods and the dominant method adopted by public and private school teachers in ovia north east local government area of Edo state is the discussion method. Therefore the study recommends that teachers should be familiar with different methods of teaching so that they can be adaptable in their use of teaching methods.
