ABSTRACT
This study, anchored on the tenets of the development Media and democratic participant Theories examined Mass Communication Students Assessment of UNIBEN FM Campus Broadcast Station in Benin City. It became necessary to embark on this project due to actual state of UNIBEN FM. Hence, the study ensued to establish the Progressive and Regressive State of UNIBEN FM. Thus, Survey design, was used with the aid of an 8 - item questionnaire. The Sample centered across 363 students of Mass Communication who were selected through purposive sampling techniques to represent and reflect opinions of University students in Edo State, Nigeria. Data obtained were presented and analyzed with the aid of frequency Tables and simple percentages and Mean scores. Findings revealed that UNIBEN FM Campus Broadcast Station is in a bad state. Findings also revealed that the awareness of Mass Communication Students towards UNIBEN FM Campus Broadcast Station is to a high extent. Other challenges faced by Mass Communication Students to access UNIBEN FM is Lack of funds, Lack of Power Supply, Lack of Radio Facilities. Hence this study concluded that Mass Communication Students needs UNIBEN FM to function effectively in order for them to have access to it, and also for then to engage in practical’s in their various fields. To this end the study recommended that the School Management should fund UNIBEN FM Campus Broadcast Station. Also, The Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) should also work on the laws guiding Campus Radio.
