SUMMARY

In this study, we see how these two renown female writers do not only expose the plights of the African women using various female characters who all possess various and similar bitter experiences in a patriarchal society but how they try to encourage women to resort to extreme measures in order to protect themselves from the men  whom they all look up to significantly in one way or the other but fail them and if possible segregate themselves from a society that has melted unjust judgment on them by blaming them or holding them accountable for whatever that may go wrong in  marriage which as we have seen can ultimately lead to depression. Research has revealed that women are more likely than men to experience depression, as well as psychological pain and emotional trauma from blame. Both the blame of childlessness and broken home are torturous, none is less than the other. That a childless woman or a woman who couldn't maintain her home are nearly viewed as tragedies in Nigerian society shows how low minded society can be.. In Stay With Me, Yejide, who is experiencing the severe pain and suffering of childlessness, searches for a child since she feels responsible for her infertility. Similar experience is shared by Toke in Toke Makinwa's On becoming.

However, Anna Lee Beyer states that  "women aren't the sole source of infertility issues, but for now, and for a long time, they've sure been suffering alone". Women go through unfair treatment especially childless mothers. Men hold the positions of authority and primarily are responsible for making decisions in the world. As a result, the men ought to have the ability to protect their home from the patriarchal system. Instead of watching their spouses be humiliated in front of society, they should defend them and accept responsibility when necessary.
