SUMMARY

The survey on the smoking and marketing practices by fish marketers on smoked fish sold in various markets where data was collected in Benin City which include: Ikpoba hill market, Ekiosa market, Ekiuwa market and uselu market was carried out. The results of this study has shown that respondents in this study areas were mostly females between the age of 25-30 years which will in turn lead to an Advantage of increased income generation, with a maximum of tertiary school education making it easy to positively influence their perception and adoption of improved technologies and practices, and also majority of the marketers are married women They usually source their fish from cold rooms and fish farms due to the distance, availability and quality of fish gotten from these sources, respondents preferred smoked fish to other form of processed fish aswell, Smoked fish were spread on the ground as a means of displaying the fish, inadequate finacial resources was the external problems faced to efficient marketing of smoked dried fish, as well as inadequate marketing information and also the smoking effect was another thing they complained about, as well as ineffective pricing was another major external problems faced to efficient marketing of smoked dried fish.
