SUMMARY
This essay has examined the discourse marker in the speech of Boss Mustapha on the covid 19 pandemic. The first chapter introduces the study, revealing the purpose, scope, theoretical framework and methodology employed in the study. It then reviews related literature and ends with a thesis statement.
The second chapter introduce the forms and functions of discourse marker, followed by presentation and analysis of the data data in other to bring out the discourse markers in the speech of Boss Mustapha. Similarly with the previous chapter, chapter three introduce the importance of discourse marker as language Coherence. And also present the data and analysis of Boss Mustapha' speech (two)
It is glaring from this research that discourse markers are an important part of every day speech. This is because they help speakers organize their thoughts and communication in very clear terms and help them feel more comfortable about their conversations and speech. An examination of the address of the Boss Mustapha, the chairman of the presidential task force committee, during the covid-19 pandemic shows that non-native speakers of the English language employ the use of certain discourse markers (DMs) in the form of certain linguistic classes like adverbials and conjunctions in their speech to coordinate their communication. The primary function of discourse markers in a speech is to maintain coherence and cohesiveness.
