ABSTRACT
Management of Outliers in Data Analysis is concerned with the effective way of managing and properly handling outliers at any stage of data processing. In the quest for data analysis, the issue of data quality has been found to be very vital.
Management of outliers in data analysis (Hypertension and Malaria), a case study of National Hospital Abuja, was carried out to evaluate and obtain certain critical information about the data.
Between 2013 and 2018 (a 5 year period) a sample size of 143 patients (hypertension) and 336 patients (malaria) were obtained with age range of 10 – 50 years for hypertension and 5 -50 years for malaria with a mean age of 37.67 years and 16.67 years respectively. About 3.49% of hypertension cases occurred in children and adolescents which represents the outliers in the data, while 4.76% of malaria cases occurred in adults. The 2SD and 3SD show that the extreme values (ages) 10, 12, 13, 15, 19 are outliers which indicates an urgent need for public enlightenment to enable early diagnosis and management in prehypertension and hypertension.
