Summary
Election prediction is one area that is very sensitive, and a topic that has garnered a number of attentions in recent times. With the amount of investment and effort put into Campaigns by Politicians and their supporters, having a first-hand information on the outcome of an election will go a long way in helping them strategies and roll out plan to ensure their victory at the polls. In this project, a machine learning application was developed that predicts election outcome using sentiment analysis. Tweets from twitter users relating to either of the three main contestant of the just concluded 2023 was processed analyzed and used to determine the favorable candidate that is likely to win. Peter Obi of the Labour party was predicted to win the presidential election having scored 79.6% positive and 17.2% Negative sentiments. While Ahmed Tinubu is predicted to be the runner upwith 76.6% Positive, and 23.2% Negative Sentiment. Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, had the least score with 57.2% Positive comment, and 17.2% Negative sentiments.
