ABSTRACT
The study examined the LOCAL STRUCTIUTRE IN SPORTS AND ITS ADMINISTARTIVE IMPACT ON ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE: A CASE STUDY OF EDO STATE SPORTS COMMISSION. A total of one hundred Male and Female (100) staffs from the different Sports as Coaches, Secretaries to Sports and administrative staffs in Edo Sate Sports Commission were the respondents who participated in the study within the age brackets 20 - 29 years, 30 – 39 years, 40– 49 years, 50- 60 years. Level of Education: OND, B.Sc., M.Sc., and others. The instrument used for data collection was a validated questionnaire which was established by the researcher and two experts in the field of Human Kinetics and Sports Science. The data analysis of respondents’ bio data was done using mean and standard deviations which was used for analysis of data. The study concluded with the available result that majority of the respondents agreed that one of the component of sports concept associated with promoting and developing sport is the provision of physical activities, sport event organizations are in charge of providing the competition system in the state sports commission, sports governing bodies in Edo state sports commission defines the rules and procedures to guide a sport discipline, there are no structural homogeneity in relation to sports governing bodies among the various entities in Edo State Sports Commission, the challenges imposed by the new characteristics of sports today have not in any way provided incentive for the commission to professionalize their activities and define new relationships with its environment and sports providing entities in the sports commission designs, and offer sports activities both at recreational and competitive level in order to achieve sporting success. It can be seen that the respondents agree on the characteristics of management and Staffs’ involvement in Edo State Sports Commission in the promotion and development of Sports. It was also discovered that majority of the respondents agreed that the managerial practices within the organizational structure of the commission has enhanced efficiency and effectiveness of the various unit/departments. Majority of the respondents agreed that digital technology is unlocking unprecedented opportunities for growth in the sports industry around the world; digitalization will need to be embedded in every aspect of sport business, to alter athletes’ experience and inner workings of Edo State Sports commission.
